Sonata 2015 (2015/2016) is written in four movements. The permutations of a Sudoku puzzle were employed in order to create structural cohesion.
I The dissonance of a major chord
The chords sounding at the beginning of this movement recur intermittently throughout the sonata. Here major chords, treated as dissonances, are juxtaposed with dissonant chords.
II One color fits all
A single texture dominates this movement, providing a contrast to the other three movements, which consist of more extreme changes.
III A pianist warms up before a concert while her dog walks on a wooden floor
Tootie, a dog from South Africa, clicks with her claws on the wooden floor while the pianist warms up before the concert.
IV It’s only a rondo, but maybe it isn’t
This movement is characterized by stark contrasts. Even a “stride piano” episode from the third movement and the initial chord sequence of the first movement appear here.
